Missing Minerals? Why Your Cells Are Starving

Did you know your body is literally made of stardust?
Minerals are the tiny spark plugs behind every cellular reaction—essential for energy, hormone balance, brain function, detox, and even your mood. Yet, thanks to modern farming and soil depletion, processed foods, and environmental stressors, many of us are running low on the very elements that keep us grounded, alive, and thriving.
In my 20's I used to think we could get all of our nutrition from diet.
Soil depletion means even organic produce often contains far fewer minerals than it did 50 years ago. Carrots today have up to 67% less iron, spinach has lost over 60% of its magnesium, and even wheat contains half the zinc it once did—proving that modern food simply isn’t feeding us like it used to. When I discovered this as part of my health science masters it started to make sense to me why so many of us nowadays need to rely on supplements, it's not only about diet.
Many fortified foods—like breakfast cereals, plant milks, or white bread—are marketed as being “rich in vitamins and minerals.” But here’s the catch: most of the added nutrients are in forms your body struggles to absorb. They are often synthetic isolated compounds without any co-factors.
Fortified doesn’t mean functional. Just because it’s listed on the label doesn’t mean your body can use it.

Without minerals, vitamins don’t work properly. They’re co-pilots in your body’s internal alchemy.
So how do we get these vital elements into our cells—and the toxins out?
When the body lacks essential minerals, the effects ripple through every system. Mitochondria—the cellular powerhouses—depend on minerals like magnesium, iron, and copper to produce ATP, the energy currency of the body. Without them, fatigue and burnout often set in. The brain also suffers, as minerals such as zinc, magnesium, and selenium are vital for neurotransmitter balance, cognition, and mood regulation. Deficiencies can lead to brain fog, anxiety, low mood, and sleep disturbances.
Detoxification pathways become sluggish without adequate mineral support, allowing toxins to accumulate and trigger symptoms like skin issues, headaches, and hormone imbalances. Electrolyte minerals like sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium are crucial for hydration, nerve function, and muscle contraction—imbalances can cause cramps, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, and poor temperature regulation. On a deeper level, minerals like zinc and selenium are essential for immune function and DNA repair, while calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and boron maintain bone strength and joint health. Importantly, vitamins require minerals to be activated and used by the body, meaning even a nutrient-rich diet or supplement regimen may fall short if mineral levels are inadequate. Without minerals, the body can’t heal, detoxify, or function optimally.

Some of my personal favourites and lifestyle choices for mineral balance is stress management - we know when we are stressed we burn through our minerals much faster. Hydrate and replenish for electrolyte balance I use Celtic Salt, Ancient Minerals, Humic & Fulvic Acid and Seeking Health. Avoid glyphosate-contaminated produce where possible—glyphosate chelates minerals in the soil and in your gut, choose organic if you can.
Let’s talk about nature’s mineral messengers Fulvic & Humic Acids. They contain over 70+ trace minerals, which reflects the mineral content of ancient plant and microbial matter from which they’re derived. These small but mighty molecules act like flavonoid-like activators. They literally open up ion channels on your cell membranes—the tiny gateways that allow minerals, nutrients, and oxygen into the cell. Once those channels are open, they carry in the very elements your body is made of: magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, zinc, and more. Then they do something extraordinary. These mineral messengers switch polarity, becoming negatively charged and acting like microscopic magnets for toxins. Heavy metals, pesticides, mold metabolites, and environmental waste are pulled out of the cell—safely and effectively—without damaging your tissues. It’s like they bring the groceries and then take out the rubbish.
They’re like ancient Earth wisdom, reborn for modern bodies.
When we reconnect with the elemental language of minerals, we unlock better energy, clarity, and resilience—one cell at a time.
Use natural binders wisely. If you detox regularly, use binders like fulvic/humic acid, or binders that don’t strip good minerals. Discount code: LXZ-V8BGFHM.
