For as long as I can remember, I’ve had an unusually strong sense of smell. I could pick up on synthetic fragrances, cleaning products, and chemical residues that others couldn’t — or wouldn’t — notice. More often than not, I was dismissed as ‘sensitive’ or ‘overreacting.’
But my body knew better.
I was diagnosed with chemical hypersensitivity.

My Journey into Low Tox Living
In 2014, I began exploring low tox living I jumped on the zero waste lifestyle, I was vegan, it went perfectly with my yoga obsession. At the time, low tox living wasn’t exactly mainstream, I thrive on the fringes!
I instinctively avoided synthetic fragrances, harsh cleaning products, and personal care items with chemical-laden ingredients. Yet my symptoms worsened after COVID — my chemical sensitivity amplified to the point where I couldn’t even tolerate things like spices-unless they were 100% clean, perfumes absolutely no way, new furniture -forget it! It was no longer an aversion it physically made me sick. What I always suspected had now become undeniable: chemicals that were deemed ‘safe in small doses’ were accumulating in my body — and making me sick.
We know the air, the water, the earth it's toxic and polluted right! But did you know that indoor air can be 2 to 5 times more polluted than outdoor air, with some homes reaching levels up to 100 times worse in extreme cases. This is largely due to a build-up of toxins from everyday products. We have a problem here.
The Hidden Dangers of Everyday Chemicals
Many common household chemicals are not as ‘harmless’ as they claim to be. In fact if they say Natural or Pure on the label they are probably extremely toxic!
Research increasingly shows that these toxins accumulate in our bodies over time, disrupting hormones, impairing detox pathways, and contributing to chronic illness and disease.
Some particularly concerning chemicals include:
Phthalates – Found in plastics, fragrances, and personal care products. Linked to hormone disruption and developmental issues.
Parabens – Preservatives used in cosmetics, shown to mimic estrogen and interfere with hormone balance.
Formaldehyde – Often lurking in household cleaners, air fresheners, and even some fabrics. A known carcinogen.
BPA (Bisphenol A) – Found in plastic containers and canned foods, linked to hormone disruption.
PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) – Used in non-stick cookware, waterproof clothing, and stain-resistant fabrics. Nicknamed ‘forever chemicals’ because they don’t break down in the environment or our bodies.
VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)- Found in paints, cleaning products, air fresheners, furniture, and even new carpets
THE Research That Validates the Risk
There are more and more studies that have shown how chronic exposure to these toxins can harm our health, here's just a few:
The Endocrine Society published extensive research confirming the impact of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) on fertility, metabolic health, and immune function.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has repeatedly highlighted the presence of carcinogens and hormone disruptors in everyday products.
A 2022 study in Nature Reviews Endocrinology emphasized that even low-dose chemical exposure can accumulate over time, causing long-term
Top Tips for Low Tox Living
Making the switch to a low tox lifestyle doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Here’s how you can start:

The Basics
Switch to Fragrance-Free Products
Synthetic fragrances are one of the biggest culprits for chemical exposure. Choose fragrance-free laundry detergents, cleaning sprays, and personal care products.
Ditch Plastic Where Possible
Opt for glass, stainless steel, or silicone for food storage and drinking bottles. Avoid heating food in plastic containers.
Use Natural Cleaning Products
Brands like Natulim, Ecover, Attitude, and Sonett offer safer alternatives.
Choose Organic Whenever Possible
Organic produce reduces pesticide exposure, and organic skincare cuts down on synthetic chemicals that absorb into your skin.
Clothing & Fabrics: Opt for organic cotton, linen, or bamboo materials. Many fast fashion brands use chemicals like formaldehyde in clothing treatments.
Download the Yuka App
The Yuka app is what i use when im walking around the supermarket scanning the barcose checking how clean the product really is.

Red Light Therapy
Red light therapy stimulates mitochondrial function, which enhances the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) — the energy currency of your cells. With increased energy, your body becomes more efficient at detoxifying itself, expelling chemicals, heavy metals, and toxins.
Air Purification Systems
Investing in a high-quality air purifier with HEPA and activated carbon filters can significantly reduce indoor air pollutants, benefiting those with chemical sensitivities.
Water Filtration Systems
A reliable water filtration system helps eliminate contaminants like heavy metals and chlorine, ensuring cleaner water for drinking and cooking. I use Osmosys & Mayu water filter.
Detox Support
Dry brushing, infrared sauna sessions, can help your body eliminate toxins more efficiently. I can create you a personal plan to help you get this right. You can also use zeolite, I like to use TRS Advanced & Fulvic acid combo.
Organic Personal Care Products
Switching to organic personal care products reduces exposure to harmful chemicals found in conventional items, promoting healthier skin and body.
Circadian Rhythm Optimization
Using apps like the Circadian App can help you align your daily activities with natural light cycles, improving overall health.
