FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE TESTING

Root-cause insights to support personalised health

Functional medicine testing allows us to move beyond symptoms and explore why your body may be struggling.

These tests offer insight into gut health, hormones, detoxification, nutrient status, metabolism, toxic exposure, genetics, and adrenal function, helping us make informed, personalised decisions rather than guesswork.

Functional medicine testing often looks at patterns, trends, and early imbalances rather than waiting for values to fall outside conventional reference ranges, which means it can reveal subtle dysfunctions long before they appear on standard blood tests.

How does it work?

  • Initial consultation to understand your symptoms, complete history, and determine whether testing is appropriate.

  • At-home test kit sent directly to you, with clear instructions and support from Nordic Labs.

  • Results review consultation to go through findings in a simply and create an action plan.

  • Personalised nutrition, lifestyle and supplement plan tailored to your needs, sensitivities, and capacity.

My Approach to Testing

REBECCA HEMMINGS HEADSHOT.png
  • Functional medicine testing is used thoughtfully and selectively within my work. It is never about chasing results, fixing numbers, or overwhelming the body with protocols.

  • My approach is grounded in nervous system safety, individual capacity, and respect for sensitivity. Testing is only introduced when it adds clarity, reassurance, or direction — and never as a requirement.

  • Results are interpreted as patterns rather than problems, always in context with your symptoms, history, lived experience, and current level of resilience. The goal is not optimisation, but stability, coherence, and sustainable support.

  • I do not use fear-based interpretation, aggressive detoxification, or one-size-fits-all protocols. Recommendations are paced, prioritised, and adapted to what your body can realistically tolerate.

  • Testing, when used, becomes a supportive reference point — not the focus of the work — helping reduce guesswork and guide gentle, personalised nutrition and supplement support.

  • Inner Alchemy is my signature work which is a gentle, body-mind-spirit led philosophy for health. This is a process that works with the nervous system, along with emotional and spiritual self to support safety, coherence, and sustainable healing from the inside out. Working with you establishing that body-mind-spirit connection for better health outcomes and lifestyle.

SOME OF THE Types of Testing Available

Genetic and Epigenetic Testing

Provides long-term insight into how your body processes nutrients, detoxifies, manages inflammation, and regulates neurotransmitters.

May include:

  • DNA Core Health testing (hormones, metabolism, sport, fertility, diet)

  • Methylation and detoxification pathway analysis

Common reasons for testing:

  • Ongoing fatigue or burnout

  • Sensitivity to supplements or medications

  • Personalised nutrition and lifestyle planning

Gut and Microbiome Testing

Assesses digestive health, microbial balance, inflammation, and gut barrier integrity.

May include:

  • Comprehensive stool testing

  • Microbiome analysis

  • Intestinal permeability markers

  • SIBO breath testing (when appropriate)

Common reasons for testing:

  • Bloating, IBS, constipation or diarrhoea

  • Histamine intolerance or food sensitivities

  • Immune or inflammatory issues

Hormone and Stress Testing

Evaluates adrenal function, cortisol rhythms, and sex hormone balance.

May include:

  • DUTCH or DUTCH Plus testing

  • Cortisol rhythm and stress response markers

Common reasons for testing:

  • Fatigue, anxiety, or sleep disruption

  • PMS, PMDD, or perimenopause

  • Chronic stress or burnout patterns

Metabolic and Nutrient Testing

Explores nutrient status, mitochondrial function, and metabolic stress.

May include:

  • Organic acids testing OAT & Metabolomix+

  • Micronutrient and oxidative stress markers

  • Hair Tissue Mineral Tests

Common reasons for testing:

  • Chronic fatigue or brain fog

  • Detoxification overload

  • Post-viral or complex chronic symptoms

Neurochemical and Nervous System Testing

Assesses neurotransmitter patterns and nervous system load.

May include:

  • NeuroAdvanced or neurotransmitter panels

Common reasons for testing:

  • Anxiety, hypervigilance, or air hunger

  • Dysautonomia or nervous system dysregulation

  • Difficulty calming or regulating

Environmental and Toxic Exposure Testing

Used selectively to assess exposure burden and detoxification capacity when there is a clear clinical indication.

May include:

  • Heavy metal exposure testing

  • Environmental toxin panels - glyphosate panel

  • Mycotoxin testing (mold)

Common reasons for testing:

  • Known or suspected environmental exposure

  • Severe chemical sensitivity
